Tennis LIVE: Jannik Sinner beats Jiri Lehecka to win Miami Open final | Tennis | Sport

The Miami Open reaches its conclusion on Sunday, with two finals on the schedule. Recent Indian Wells champion Jannik Sinner is hoping to complete the Sunshine Double, but first-time Masters 1000 finalist Jiri Lehecka stands in his way. Last year, fellow Czech star Jakub Mensik stunned Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles final. And Lehecka will hope to fly the flag for Czech tennis again in 2026.

The day kicked off with a thrilling women’s doubles final between the top two seeds, as Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini took on Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend. Around an hour into the match, play was suspended by rain, just as they were getting towards the end of the first set. That match was then moved, to resume on the smaller Grandstand court, as organisers wanted to make sure the men’s singles final could also be played at the same time. Sinner and Lehecka were due on court not before 3pm local time (8pm BST), but the rain has continued, and they were also left waiting in the wings to start their match.

Finally, at around 4.20pm local (9.20pm BST), Sinner and Lehecka stepped out onto the Stadium, while Errani/Paolini and Siniakova/Townsend returned, this time on Grandstand. Czech-American duo Siniakova and Townsend claimed a 7-6(0) 6-1 victory to complete the Sunshine Double, having won Indian Wells a couple of weeks ago.

Meanwhile, the men’s doubles final was interrupted by another spell of rain at the beginning of the second set. Sinner had taken the opener 6-4.

The grey clouds are certainly hanging around and the rain has been very stop-start, so there could be more delays. It’s something No. 2 seed Sinner had already been expecting. After winning his semi-final on Friday, the 2024 champion said: “Let’s see also the weather forecast. It’s also not promising, but we hope for a day as dry as possible, and that we have a chance to play.”
