New PS5 Pro update makes premium PlayStation console even more appealing | Gaming | Entertainment
Available now, the new PS5 system update enhances the quality of the Pro’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology.
This means upscaled visuals in even more games that support it, including Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Control and Silent Hill f.
Sony explains more: “Today’s PS5 system software update introduces broad support for the upgraded version of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), delivering enhanced image stability, improved clarity in fine details, and more consistent performance across supported titles.
“PSSR is an AI library that analyses each frame pixel by pixel as it upscales game visuals.
‘With this latest evolution, image reconstruction is more precise, motion stability is improved, and developers have greater flexibility to balance performance and fidelity on PS5 Pro.”
In Silent Hill f, for example, the new and improved PSSR will result in clearer and more visually detailed shadows and blades of grass.
Elsewhere, PSSR upgrades will improve image upscaling quality and stability in Control and Alan Wake 2, allowing “efficient stochastic sampling without sacrificing image stability”.
Nioh 3 and Rise of the Ronin also take advantage of the upgraded technology, resulting in sharper edges for natural objects such as trees, plants and flowers.
After previously using enhanced PSSR in Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom has added it to titles such as Monster Hunter Wilds and Dragon’s Dogma 2.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Silent Hill 2 also feature improved visuals following the latest update.
Furthermore, Sony has confirmed that multiple titles will benefit from the new and improved PSSR in the coming weeks.
This includes upcoming release Crimson Desert, which launches on March 19. Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Cyberpunk 2077 will receive official updates in the coming weeks.
To take advantage of the tech, PS5 Pro users should visit the system settings and select ‘Screen and Video’. Then scroll down to ‘Enhance PSSR Image Quality’ and switch it on.
Sony recommends turning it off if you experience any unexpected behaviour during gameplay.
