Get a ‘like new’ iPhone from just £179 with little-known way to buy
It’s hard to find a true bargain deal when you’re shopping for an iPhone but that’s exactly what’s on offer right now over at Giffgaff. The mobile network is offering several generations of iPhones in ‘like new’ condition, with prices starting from a scarcely believable £179.
The deals are part of Giffgaff’s refurbished selection of smartphones, a way to save on good condition smartphones that not a lot of people know about. If you are a Giffgaff customer, you can log in to your account and purchase a refurbished phone outright. If you’re not a customer, you can still do so, but you’ll also need to get a Giffgaff SIM with a mobile plan while you’re at it.
One of the cheapest iPhones available is the iPhone 11, which came out in 2019. Though it’s still receiving software updates, it’s the oldest iPhone to still get them, and very likely won’t get any more updates after this year. It’s a true bargain at £179 in ‘like new’ condition, but you’ll probably want to spend a bit more to get something slightly newer.
Giffgaff says phones sold in ‘like new’ condition have “zero wear and tear. These phones look like new, with no visible scratches on the screen or body.” It even offers at least 21 days “no quibble returns”, so you can get a full refund if you aren’t happy with the phone.
All phones also come unlocked for use on any network, even if you buy a Giffgaff SIM.
The firm offers a 24-month warranty with all refurbished phones purchased, and promises any refurbished iPhone will have at least 80 percent battery health. This is a figure you can view in the Battery section of the Settings app, and reflects how depleted the battery is, as these phones are pre-owned. You might get lucky with 100 percent, but there’s no way to know before buying.
At the time of writing, Giffgaff also had stock of the iPhone 12 (2020) for £209 in like new condition, but a better bet is a like new iPhone 13 (2021) for £299. That’s because it will probably still get updates for two more years, and comes with 128GB storage – whereas the cheapest iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 only have 64GB.
Some models are also offered with 256GB, for a higher price.
Giffgaff also has stock of the iPhone 14, iPhone 15 and iPhone 16, as well as the Pro models of most of these generations of iPhone. It even has the iPhone 17 Pro for £899.
You can purchase the phones outright, or opt for a payment plan using buy now pay later service Klarna. For example, you can pay £25 upfront today for the £299 iPhone 13, and then pay back the rest with 0 percent interest over 24 months at just £11.42 per month. There are also 6- and 12-month payment plans if you want to pay it off faster.
If you’re already in Giffgaff, this is an affordable way to get a new iPhone if yours has given up the ghost. Joining Giffgaff is easy, with SIM plans from £10 per month and it’s easy to switch your number to your new SIM.
