The Wrecking Crew review – Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista explosive action comedy | Films | Entertainment
Lethal Weapon, Bad Boys, Rush Hour. The buddy cop action-comedy teaming a by-the-book cop with a loose cannon is a genre that’s been few and far between in recent years.
But with the return of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s franchise and the announcement of Rush Hour 4, this kind of movie is making a comeback at President Trump’s request.
None more so than in The Wrecking Crew, this weekend’s big original movie release on Amazon Prime Video, boasting a long-awaited, inevitable team-up of Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista.
The muscle-clad pair play estranged Hawaiian brothers Jonny and James Hale, who are reunited in hunting down their father’s killer on O’ahu.
Bautista is the straight-laced Pearl Harbor-based Navy SEAL, while Momoa repeats his Aquaman chaos as a biker chain-wearing, beer-chugging cowboy of a detective.
Joined by sidekick Pika (Spider-Man’s Jacob Batalon) and Jonny’s girlfriend Valentina (Deadpool’s Morena Baccarin), the clashing siblings set off on their case with amusing antics.
But the best part of all is the Fast and Furious-style action sequences. Totally over-the-top, massive explosions and very bloody. It’s all very entertaining.
Is it trying to be more than a popcorn movie? No, of course not. But being one, it really should have been released in cinemas, as should Idris Elba and John Cena’s Heads of State. They’re far too good for straight-to-streaming. More of this, please, Amazon, but on the big screen!
The Wrecking Crew is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.
