I visited the revamped M&S on Oxford Street – what stood out

Marks and Spencer

Marks and Spencer has been undertaking a major £90 million overhaul of its landmark Pantheon store on Oxford Street, London, since April 2025, when a brand-new Foodhall was unveiled. Since then, the rest of the store has also seen major refurbishment, so I popped in over the weekend to see what’s now on offer.

Inside, the space has been transformed into something sleek and modern, and it genuinely shocked me. I felt more like I was in a Zara store than a traditional M&S location, with rails of streamlined clothing, beautifully styled mannequins and a fresh layout that neatly organises each fashion category — from Per Una and Autograph to gymwear, shoes and bags — into its own pocket of space. It feels like M&S has well and truly stepped into 2026, broadening its offering to appeal to a wider age range, while still delivering the same trusted quality and a wide spread of prices, many of which remain really reasonable for its longstanding shoppers.

It’s not just the physical shop that’s been given a modern refresh either; over the last year or two, everything from Marks and Spencer’s fashion lines to its homeware has been quietly revamped and given a new lease of life. The new-in ladies collection, in particular, stopped me in my tracks, with so many standout pieces that it was almost impossible to narrow things down to just one. From stylish jackets and shoes that rival high-end brands, to chic dresses and versatile tops that work just as well by day as they do at night, I’ve picked out a few of my favourite items currently in-store and online.

Pure Cotton Faux Leather Collared Barn Jacket – £65

M&S Barn jacket

This barn jacket is a great transitional piece that’ll see you through the spring (Image: Aimee Robinson / M&S)

This barn jacket immediately caught my eye because there are so many similar cuts and styles on the market right now from high-end competitors, often at much higher prices. Nobody’s Child has a similarly cut khaki barn jacket for £145 at the time of writing, and Hush has a barn jacket in similar colours for £70 (it was £170 before the sale arrived). The beauty of the M&S jacket, though, is that it comes in at a very reasonable £65. Finished in a rich caramel colour with a deep brown faux leather collar, most of the jacket — aside from the trimmings — is made from 100% cotton, while the interior lining is made from polyester.

I think this is the perfect transitional piece that will really earn its keep in your wardrobe, whether layered over jumpers, cardigans, or shirts on chillier days, or thrown on during spring months when you still need that extra layer.

So far, the jacket has just two reviews on the M&S website, and both give it a five-star rating. One customer said: “Great jacket. Just what I was looking for. Well-priced.”

Floral Long Sleeve Midaxi Skater Dress – £65

Marks and Spencer flower dress

The flattering fit and silky material of this dress make it great for events (Image: M&S)

This floral dress immediately caught my eye because of its flattering shape. The long fluted sleeves and floaty A-line skirt make it one of those dresses you can chuck on and immediately look dressed up with minimal effort. The silky material (made from 100% viscose) elevates it enough that, combined with a pair of heels and a pretty handbag, it’s perfect for a nice dinner out or even a wedding, but can equally be made more casual for nights out on holiday, wearing it with a pair of slides or pumps.

Though it’s black, it is brightened up with a pretty yellow contemporary floral print that makes it great for summer. The pattern is also eye-catching enough to make a statement even when styled simply.

For something so versatile and at just £65, it’s quite the bargain. The dress runs in sizes six to 18. One shopper, who gave the dress a five-star review, said: “Love this, beautiful dress, true to size – love the material.”

Pinstripe Single Pleat Wide Leg Trousers – £29.50

Pinstripe trousers from M&S

The trousers were styled in the shop with a matching waistcoat (Image: M&S)

The minute I saw these navy pinstripe trousers, I couldn’t help but think of all of the different ways they could be styled, which is always a good sign. I loved how Marks and Spencer’s visual merchandising team had coupled them with a pinstripe waistcoat (and tied the adjustment strap from the back around the waist for an extra cinched-in look), and I think it would make the perfect chic office look that feels polished without trying too hard. But these trousers could easily be dressed down too.

I’m picturing them with a pair of pumps, a crisp white T-shirt and a chic leather handbag for everyday wear. Or, in the summer months, chucked on with a racerback vest and a pair of sandals for that effortless summertime cool girl look. And at just £29.50, they’re a bit of a steal.

The single pleat trousers have a flattering wide leg and a high waist that fastens with a hook, a bar, and a zip, giving them a tailored feel while still being comfortable enough for all-day wear. So far, the trousers are highly rated by customers, earning a 4.5-star rating. One customer said: “These trousers are very good value for money as the quality is excellent and the style is figure flattering. They are easy to wear – very comfortable. The stripe enhances the trousers. True to size.”

The trousers run in a range from size 6 through to 24, and also come in a choice of five lengths (something I, as a 5’2 person, love to see): Extra short, short/petite, regular, extra long and long.

However, a few shoppers mentioned that, even with the length options, the trousers were a little shorter than anticipated. One person said: “I do like these trousers. [They are a] nice blue [and I] like the pin stripe but they do come up a bit small. Even though I ordered a 10 and extra short, which for me, was a little too short but wearable.”

Autograph Textured Draped Blouse and Wide Leg Trousers – £45/£55

M&S brown draped top and trousers

This draped top is elegant yet understated (Image: Aimee Robinson / M&S)

M&S Autograph is the brand’s more elevated, premium range, so prices are a little higher, but when I wandered into the Autograph section of the shop, this brown floaty top instantly caught my eye. I’m always on the lookout for nice tops that I can pop on with a pair of jeans for dinner or an event, that are glamorous yet understated. And this top nails it thanks to the textured fabric, floaty sleeves and chic cowl tie at the back of the neck.

However, one point is that while M&S say the top is a regular fit, I noticed it is fairly long in the body (especially as someone who is quite short). For me, this wouldn’t be an issue as I think it would look lovely layered with jeans or, as the M&S team styled it, with the matching wide-leg trousers, but it is something to note. The top comes in sizes six to 24.

The matching wide-leg trousers (£55) are made from the same material but are sheer up to the thigh, making them a great choice for elevated evening wear or for shopping or lunch on holiday in the summer. They have a light, floaty feel that makes them perfect for warmer weather while still looking polished. The trousers come in sizes six to 22.

The only other downside is that, despite being from the premium range, the co-ord is polyester.

Suede Flat Ballet Pumps – £40

Ballet pumps

I think these pumps rival some more expensive ones (Image: Aimee / M&S)

The ballet pump trend has been back for a while now, but the high-rise and fuller coverage of these pumps make them look more expensive to me, and that was what initially caught my eye. There’s something about the shape that feels really polished and considered, rather than flimsy. Made from faux suede effect material and in a versatile tan colour, I think they give rival shoes a bit of a run for their money. Cos, for example, has a similar suede-effect pump cut in a similar style but retailing for £115 – that’s £75 more than the M&S shoes.

The M&S pumps are a far more purse-friendly £40. I think they’d look just as cute popped on with a pair of blue jeans as they would with a long skirt. I also really like pumps because they are great for transitional dressing. In the winter, I pair my mine with socks to keep my feet warm.

Despite their low price, the shoes have a decent 4.5-star rating based on customer reviews, which always adds a bit of reassurance. They come in sizes three through to eight (including half sizes, which is a major bonus) and, according to shoppers, are comfortable. One person said: “They are extremely comfortable and very smart. I find that most pumps gape and are too narrow, but these fit well.”

I suppose the only downside is that they don’t come in more colours (yet!).
