Apple’s iPhone gets more affordable as EE confirms a new way to buy

Buying a new iPhone or Samsung Galaxy device is never going to be cheap, but a new incentive from EE should make things feel a tiny bit more affordable. The UK network, now owned by BT, has just announced the launch of contracts featuring fully refurbished devices rather than brand-new phones that have never been used.

That might sound a little scary, but EE says that all devices will be thoroughly tested via a 53-point quality inspection and even come with an extended warranty that covers manufacturer faults for the entire lifetime of the customer’s plan.

That should give those investing in one of these second-hand smartphones some peace of mind.

They might not be new but that comes with a big bonus. EE has confirmed that prices will start from as little as £31 per month and will be available on up to 36-month Flex Pay agreements. This helps to spread the cost of the handset over a prolonged period – just like those buying a brand new smartphone on contract get.

There is another reason to consider these deals. Students who take out a Flex Pay plan with EE will receive a 40 percent discount on their airtime when taking a refurbished smartphone. For example, this means students could make savings of up to £12 per month on refurbished device plans like the Samsung Galaxy S24 saving around nearly £300 over the length of the plan.

Along with offering lower prices, EE also says these new offers will improve sustainability by enabling devices to be reused rather than scrapped.

Speaking about the update, Sharon Meadows, MD Marketing & Commercial, EE said: “Our new range of refurbished smartphone Flex Pay plans makes great technology accessible to more people, in a way that helps both budgets and the planet.

“Refurbished is no longer a second choice, it’s now mainstream, with younger customers leading the way when it comes to thrifty, sustainable choices. Our launch will give them and consumers across the UK, total confidence they’re getting a high-quality device, backed by EE’s extended warranty and award-winning support, along with access to the UK’s best network.”
