It might have taken Square Enix six years to get around to it, but Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is finally getting a launch on Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch 2 consoles this week. Initially released on PlayStation 4 in 2020, the game is a reimagined telling of the 1997 classic – well, of the first act that is.
Square Enix has decided to split up the beloved PlayStation 1 game into three different remake titles. The second, Rebirth, is currently available on PlayStation 5, while the third is currently unannounced but rumoured to be coming soon.
Gamers that have already pre-ordered Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade can already pre-load it on Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2. Here’s a countdown to when the game should unlock so you can jump in as soon as it becomes available.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade release time on Xbox and Switch 2
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is set to release at 12am on January 22, 2026 for Xbox consoles. This can be confirmed by heading to the Xbox store where the release time is listed.
However, Xbox usually uses a staggered release system for new games, meaning the timezone your console is set to will affect when the game will unlock. As such, you might be able to play Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade a little earlier if you set your Xbox console to New Zealand.
Doing this means you could start playing as early as midday on January 21.
For those picking up Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on Nintendo Switch 2, you’ll sadly have to wait just a little bit longer. Nintendo tends to launch its games at a universal time, which usually coincides with 10am JST.
In UK time, that translates to 1am GMT. So, it’s either going to be a very late night on Wednesday or a super early morning on Thursday if you want to play Final Fantasy 7 Remake as early possible on Switch 2.

If you are looking to hop on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade as soon as it comes out, I’d recommend preloading it. The file size on Xbox Series X|S sits at around 110GB, while the Switch 2 comes in at a similarly large 90GB.
This might not be a bother for those with high-speed internet. However, the preloads are already available on both platforms, so it’s worth getting prepared if you can to avoid disappointment on launch day.
