Viewers craving a gripping gangster drama and searching for fresh viewing material need look no further than a title currently available on Netflix, reports the Mirror.
This follows recommendations for a “masterpiece” crime period drama, a timeless Hollywood classic and a programme hailed as Netflix’s “best” offering.
Whilst the genre boasts numerous films and television programmes, one particular title has garnered exceptional acclaim on IMDb from enthusiastic viewers.
One reviewer awarded it 9/10, describing it as an “incredible thriller” before elaborating: “It’s not a true story so they can do anything they go anywhere they want with the story and there are plenty of twists and turns to keep you captivated.
“This show is so much better than I thought it would be and has only gotten better throughout the seasons!”
Another user detailed in their 9/10 assessment: “I love Breaking Bad, Fargo, True Detective, Happy Valley, Sherlock and other quality shows that are similar. This show is no Breaking Bad, but it is enjoyable!”.
They continued: “The episodes move quickly and so far, I’m blue at the end that I have to wait another week to see what happens next. The acting is solid, the script is good so far, and if they can keep it up this will be a great show for the long run! I hope it stays around!”

Queen of the South drew inspiration from Spanish-language telenovela La Reina del Sur, itself adapted from Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s novel The Queen of the South.
The story centred on impoverished Mexican woman Teresa Mendoza (portrayed by Alice Braga), forced to flee after a cartel killed her boyfriend.
Teresa arrived in America, where she rose to become a drug queenpin whilst seeking vengeance for her lover’s murder, confronting numerous perils along the way.
Alongside Brazilian leading lady Braga, Queen of the South boasted a cast including Peter Gadiot, Veronica Falcón, Hemky Madera, Joaquim de Almeida, Justina Machado, and Molly Burnett.
Whilst both adaptations proved successful, the source novel has similarly garnered considerable acclaim on Amazon Books. One reader awarded the book a full 5/5 stars, describing it as a “great read”.
They elaborated: “The big plus for me was that having now read the book Alice Braga who played the part of Teressa Mendoza, the anti hero, was a perfect interpretation of the character depicted in the book. A great, well written book [sic].”
Another glowing 5/5 review stated: “A great novel that I’ve now read twice. The plot is gripping; a real page turner.
“The characters are flawed and believable. And the locations – Mexico, North Africa and Southern Spain – come alive to this UK reader who has never visited any of them.”
The reader also confessed their fondness for the novel was such that they read it twice.
A third high-rated review lauded it as an “enjoyable read”, with the reader remarking: “A look into drug cartels around the world written as a rollicking story. I didn’t want to put it down.”
