Samsung Galaxy S25 prices plummet amid S26 release rumours
Samsung may be preparing to launch a new addition to its Galaxy S series and it’s having big ramifications for the current models. It’s usually around this time each year when we begin seeing waves of rumours and leaks regarding the tech giant’s latest smartphone, and this year they’re swirling around the expected launch of the Galaxy S26.
If history is anything to go by, the new models may be released in a matter of weeks. Last year, Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S25 series at its Unpacked showcase on January 22, before they were available to buy on February 7.
There’s no word on a potential release date just yet, but Technology Editor David Snelling suggests we may catch our first glimpse of the new gadgets at another Unpacked event on February 25. We might even have the official model names confirmed, according to apparent leaks.
As reported by SamMobile, a document was shared on Samsung’s Columbian website that may have revealed the Galaxy S26 lineup. If the details on a PDF that was subsequently removed are true, then Samsung could be gearing up to release the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Plus, and Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Amid all of this, the previous Samsung models have begun plummeting in price, with the Galaxy S25 getting some huge price cuts. One deal that stands out is more than £200 off at Sky Mobile, where the device has been knocked from £28 to £20 when spreading the cost, with £12 upfront.
The discount equates to £216 over Sky’s 36-month contract, but keep in mind customers can upgrade to a new phone after 24 months. Customers can also claim £180 cashback to spend in their Samsung Wallet if ordering by January 29.
A catch here is that Sky only provides a 100MB data allowance, so heavier users will need to opt for a larger plan at additional cost. Elsewhere, Mobiles.co.uk offers the Galaxy S25 for £24.99 per month and £59 upfront on iD Mobile’s 100GB tariff, which equates to £703.76 over the 24-month term.
The £180 cashback deal is available here too, with the contract ending up cheaper than buying outright for £799 at Amazon or Samsung. Mobiles.co.uk will also throw in free Galaxy Buds3 Pro or Galaxy Watch8 with select contracts.
For those seeking the more powerful and premium Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, Sky is including a Galaxy Watch8 worth £319 and £250 cashback, but this deal has been flagged as ‘selling fast’. The S25 Ultra is currently priced at £43 per month and £12 upfront with the usual 100MB data allowance.
In his four-star review of the standard Samsung Galaxy S25, Deputy Technology Editor Henry Burrell said: “Samsung has made another great phone with the S25. It has great performance, solid battery life, excellent software and capable cameras.
“If you’re coming from a Galaxy S21 or another phone from 2021 or older, the S25s represent big upgrades in build quality, battery life, camera performance and software perks.”
However, he added: “These phones are incredibly similar to every Galaxy S phone Samsung has released since 2022. The design has barely changed and the cameras are the same, meaning if you are looking to upgrade your Android phone, there isn’t a lot that’s new.
“That’s not to say these aren’t excellent phones, because they are. In a world of enormous phones, the regular S25 is a breath of fresh air.
“The smaller 6.1-inch screen S25 is about as compact as high-end Android phones get. One of the best things is Samsung’s updated One UI 7 software, based on Android 15.
“It’s easy to use and easier to customise if you know how to make these phones feel like your own, a flexibility offered by Android that’s harder to get on the iPhone.”
