A “masterpiece” period drama hailed as “unforgettable” is streaming now in the UK. Little Women (2019) is set in 19th-century Concord, Massachusetts and tells the story of the March sisters as they enter adulthood against the backdrop of the American Civil War.

The touching US come-of-age tale features an all-star cast, including Saoirse Ronan, Harry Potter star Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Laura Dern. Timothée Chalamet, Tracy Letts, Bob Odenkirk, James Norton, Louis Garrel, Chris Cooper, and Meryl Streep are also among the array of big names that feature. The film was written and directed by Greta Gerwig and is an adapation of Louisa May Alcott’s 1868 novel of the same name.

The film was critically acclaimed was nomiated for six Oscars, including including Best Picture, Best Actress (Ronan), Best Supporting Actress (Pugh), Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Score, while winning the gong for Best Costume Design.

Fans have flocked to IMDb to lavish praise upon the moving drama.

One called it a “wonderful movie from every aspect”. “It has a powerful story, superb acting and beautiful costumes and design,” they added. “Moreover, it seems to me that I am flipping the pages of a painting book. Every scene looks like a beautiful canvas.”

Another said: “This film is simply spectacular! The acting is superb by everone in the cast, the attention to detail here is just breathtaking. I was wondering during the film that how much time and effort were into making this movie.

Though they were “a bit annoyed by the non-linearity of the script and thought it was overdone” they still said they enjoyed it and urged people to: “Go see this”.

Another said they would have given it an 11 out of 10 if they could have writing that’s it’s faithful to the story, has “realistic and detailed” costumes, actors working in harmony, and “is able to create the family atmosphere you get reading the books; pleasant photography; powerful messages… I could sum up in one word: unforgettable. Period”.
