UK’s ‘best’ and ‘worst’ mobile network confirmed, see where your provider ranks
If the most important part of your mobile plan is rapid download speeds for streaming movies on the move, then you might be best switching to Three Mobile. This UK provider has just come out top in the latest tests from the team at Ookla. Three beat its main rivals to the top spot with the company scoring high marks for both uploads and downloads. In second place overall was Vodafone, with EE just behind in third.
O2 was at the bottom of the pack across all categories, scoring the slowest speeds overall.
“3 is the Fastest 5G Network in United Kingdom, Q3–Q4 2025. The Ookla Speedtest Award for Fastest Network is based on Speed Score and provides a measure of a network’s throughput and responsiveness,” Ookla explained.
“It combines download and upload speeds with latency metrics to give an overall view of speed performance.”
Here are all the scores according to Ookla
Speed Score Test Count
Three – 53.46
Vodafone – 43.05
EE – 36.73
O2 – 30.70
Median Speeds Download
Three – 214Mbps
Vodafone – 129.78Mbps
EE – 97Mbps
O2 – 78.92Mbps
Median Speeds Upload
Three – 13.8Mbps
Vodafone – 10.78Mbps
EE – 10.96Mbps
O2 – 8.28Mbps
One thing worth mentioning is that testing mobile networks can be incredibly challenging, and these scores may not accurately represent speeds across the entire county.
As noted by the team at ISPreview, users are constantly moving, accessing networks indoors and outdoors, along with environments changing. These factors can affect speeds at different times, making it difficult to obtain a fully accurate assessment.
That said, this latest report puts Three at the top of the tree, and things could get even better for users of this network with it joining forces with Vodafone.
The two firms are boasting that they will create the UK’s best network thanks to an £11 billion investment.
Since merging in lasy May, VodafoneThree has set about combining Vodafone and Three’s networks at a technological level. Labelled ‘Multi-Operator Core Network’ technology, the result is customers of Vodafone automatically connecting to Three’s network and vice versa, for free.
