This Ring rival security camera is incredible value at less than a tenner
If you want to invest in security cameras for your home, things can get expensive pretty quickly. Many cameras are pricey to begin with, and if you add a subscription fee on top of that to unlock all the features, kitting out your house requires some financial commitment.
Luckily, those of us on a budget have options. Blink, the security camera firm owned by Amazon, makes affordable cameras for the home, and right now you can pick up the popular Blink Mini for a penny less than £10.
In a great deal available to anyone, not just Amazon Prime subscribers, the Blink Mini indoor security camera is just £9.99 in either black or white. It’s usually £21.99, so that’s less than half price.
The diminutive camera comes with a USB cable and power adapter to quickly set it up, linking it to the Blink app on your phone or tablet. As mentioned, you do need to pay for a Blink subscription to use the camera to its fullest, but these plans start from just £2.50 per month.
With the right features enabled, this affordable camera lets you set up motion detection within your home that comes on automatically when you’re out, for instance. That makes it a good choice to alert you to any intruders.
Alternatively, Blink says you can use the Blink Mini as a way to keep an eye on your pets when you are out, making sure they aren’t in any bother. This even includes two way audio thanks to a microphone and speaker nestled in the camera. Using the Blink app, you can use your phone’s mic to say hi to pup or moggy, and even hear them back if they’re feeling friendly.
The camera offers day and night-capable recording at 1080p HD quality, with smartphone alerts if motion is detected. And as this is an Amazon product, the Blink Mini can seamlessly link to any Alexa-enabled device, such as an Echo speaker, so you can control the camera with your voice. This lets you do things such as disarming the camera when you don’t need it on.
If you stock up with a few Blink Minis, this can be handy too. Pepper them throughout your house, and you can ask Alexa to show the live feed from any camera depending on the room, and have it pop up on the screen of the Echo device, such as the Echo Show devices.
Even without Alexa, this is an inexpensive and easy way to add some home security into your life.
