A gripping war drama featuring a legendary courtroom confrontation has been hailed by cinema enthusiasts as ‘one of the finest films ever made’, and it’s airing on Channel 4 this evening.

Released in 1992, A Few Good Men centres on Lt. Daniel Kaffee (Tom Cruise), a military attorney representing two U.S. Marines accused of murdering a colleague at Guantánamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba.

Though Kaffee typically favours plea negotiations, Lt. Cdr. JoAnne Galloway (Demi Moore), a fellow lawyer, persuades him that the accused were probably following orders from a superior officer. Kaffee gambles by summoning Col. Nathan R.Jessep (Jack Nicholson) to testify in a bid to expose the cover-up.

Despite being over three decades old, the film continues to be celebrated as ‘a masterclass in acting’ thanks to its stellar ensemble. One fan wrote on Rotten Tomatoes: “What a film, absolutely a masterclass in acting, story. Another viewer added: “A Few Good Men is a solid courtroom drama with great performances, but the best part is the intense face-off between Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson-Nicholson gives the best performance of the film, and he and Cruise have great chemistry. When he yells, “You can’t handle the truth!” it hits hard and totally owns the whole movie.

“One of the best movies from that era. Has improved over time. You can’t say that about very many films, Great cast. Great acting and direction. Great writing. Never gets old,” praised a third viewer.

A fourth said: “This might be Tom Cruises best performance and it’s definitely the best court drama in a movie. There isn’t a single problem or flaw with this film that I can see.”

Several fans highlighted a particular sequence, with one enthusiast noting: “You can safely call “A Few Good Men” a true classic movie. It’s a very memorable movie because of great performances, very solid script, and some unforgettable speeches and quotes (with “You can’t handle the truth” coming first in to the mind when remembering this picture).

“It’s has interesting story and basically it’s a court room and procedure drama. What standout here and makes this movie some sort of classic are great performances by probably all involved (especially by leads), some terrific lines and scenes.

“Not everything here works, but it’s a solid movie. Screenplay by the great Aaron Sorkin is excellent, which was based on his play. Overall, 8/10 for “A Few Good Men”. If you haven’t seen it, you can safely check this one out – it’s a memorable film.”
