Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake leak points to imminent release | Gaming | Entertainment
The worst kept secret in gaming keeps on getting leakier by the day as the rumoured Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag remake gets another sighting out in the wild.
Before Christmas, fans spotted that the game was rated by PEGI, the European ratings board that rules the age rating of new and upcoming games. Now, it’s the turn of French domain registrar ANDI SAS to slip up as it has registered a new website with a familiar Ubisoft name.
Spotted by TheHiddenOneAC on X, the domain name ‘assassinscreedblackflagresynced.com’ was registered December 9, 2025. The ‘Resynced’ name matches what was seen on the PEGI rating before it was taken down, helping to confirm Ubisoft’s planned remaster.
Ubisoft is yet to confirm that a Black Flag remake is officially in the works, but it’s pretty much an open secret at this point. Even the main voice actor for protagonist Edward Kenway dropped a not-so-subtle hint at a fan convention in 2025, telling one of his fans: “Have you beat the game?… well you may have to beat it again
“There’s a reason I say that but I can’t say anything.”
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag was one of the most popular titles after the much-beloved protagonist of Ezio finished his trilogy. It followed pirated-turned-assassin Edward Kenway across an adventure in the Caribbean sea, taking down fellow pirates, templars and slavers alike along the way.
It was the first game in the series to really hone in on the naval warfare gameplay, allowing players to fight other ships and eventually board them. That gameplay went on to inform the slightly less well-favoured Skull and Bones – although this Black Flag remake will supposedly reuse a lot of that game’s existing assets.
What’s not 100% clear is how far Ubisoft is going with the remake treatment. It could be that players are in for a slightly prettier retelling of the same story with familiar gameplay mechanics – but other rumours point towards a few of the more recent RPG elements sneaking their way in.
Again, nothing is confirmed yet, but it does seem like Ubisoft is ramping up for some sort of announcement, especially if a website domain name is now registered.
Earlier reports suggest that Ubisoft is aiming to launch both Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake and the Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake before the of 2025’s fiscal year. That gives us until the end of March 2026, with all evidence currently pointing towards our Caribbean revisit occurring in the last week of that month.
