Marvel has set the film world abuzz with the release of its initial teaser for the eagerly awaited Avengers: Doomsday. Since the announcement in 2024, fans have been clamouring for every scrap of information about the upcoming film, from its release date to its star-studded cast, which includes some familiar faces, reports the Mirror.

When will Avengers Doomsday be released?

The official release date for Avengers: Doomsday is slated for December 18, 2026. This means a year-long wait for fans, but Marvel has thrown in a countdown timer following the release of a brief teaser for the new film, promising it to be the first of many sneak peeks before its theatrical debut.

In an 80-second teaser released on YouTube on December 23, Marvel confirmed the return of Steve Rogers (portrayed by Chris Evans), despite previous assumptions that he had hung up his superhero cape. The clip shows him dismounting a motorcycle and entering a house, where he tenderly holds a baby, embodying the role of a devoted father.

Following this poignant moment, a title card appeared declaring: “Steve Rogers will return in Avengers Doomsday.”

The teaser has since racked up more than 14 million views on YouTube, with countless fans expressing their excitement about the new clips and Rogers’ dramatic comeback.

One viewer wittily remarked: “Bringing back Steve is such a nice admission of defeat, warms my heart.”

Another chimed in as a reminder to devoted supporters: “Steve Rogers ain’t Cap anymore” whilst a third eagerly quipped: “Now we all gotta stay at home 1 year to avoid any accidents.”

A second teaser trailer has recently surfaced in cinemas prior to Avatar: Fire and Ash, featuring Chris Hemsworth’s Thor offering prayers to his deceased father whilst expressing his desire to be reunited with his daughter. This preview emerges amidst earlier alleged leaks and even claims of a third teaser being leaked before its official unveiling.

Who will be in the cast of Avengers: Doomsday?

As with all Marvel productions, viewers can anticipate a substantial ensemble featuring recognisable faces from the MCU, Fantastic Four: First Steps, and also 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise. As previously mentioned, Evans will be returning to portray Rogers in the upcoming film.

Here’s a glimpse at some of the other performers joining him. In a marathon five-and-a-half-hour livestream back in March, Marvel Studios unveiled the star-studded cast of Avengers: Doomsday.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the ensemble includes Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Letitia Wright as Black Panther, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Danny Ramirez as The Falcon and Winston Duke as M’Baku.

The line-up also features actors from the Thunderbolts* film, which premiered in May this year. These include Sebastian Stan as The Winter Soldier, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Lewis Pullman portraying Bob.

Fans can anticipate appearances from the X-Men universe with Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique. Alan Cumming will return as Nightcrawler and Kelsey Grammer as Beast from the 2000s films.

Channing Tatum, previously involved in a doomed Gambit project, will also feature in Doomsday. The Magic Mike and She’s the Man actor made his initial Marvel appearance in Deadpool and Wolverine.

The Fantastic Four will feature Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as The Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as The Human Torch. Tenoch Huerta Mejía, star of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is set to reprise his role as Namor.

Additional cast members not highlighted in the main Marvel livestream are also expected.

Avengers: Doomsday will see a host of other actors including Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange, Mabel Cadena as Namora, Alex Livinalli as Attuma, and India Rose Hemsworth as Love. Speculation suggests potential returns for Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter.

However, it remains uncertain whether Ryan Reynolds will return as Wade Wilson/Deadpool.

What can we expect from Avengers: Doomsday?

First announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, Avengers: Doomsday confirmed the return of Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. to the MCU. Despite retiring his character in Avengers: Endgame, Downey Jr. will now embody Doctor Doom.

Set 14 months after the Thunderbolts* film, the storyline will unite various Marvel teams to confront Doctor Doom.
