Masterpiece movie from 1994 named ‘greatest Christmas film ever’ is on Disney+ | Films | Entertainment
Whether you’re an adult or a child, this film is one that will get you into the festive spirit this season. It tells the story of a man who inadvertently makes Santa fall off his roof on Christmas Eve and finds himself magically recruited to take his place.
The Santa Claus (1994) is everything you could want from a Christmas film – with humour, magic and a stellar cast. One person on IMDB said: “This film may be one of the greatest Christmas films of all time, it’s so good that it’s so fun to watch. It’s a very rewatchable film and very enjoyable. You need to watch this film, it’s so good, and it has a lot of comedy. Tim Allen acts out as Buzz and now Santa.”
Another person penned: “This is one of the few movies that my wife and I ALWAYS try to watch on Christmas Eve, it’s become somewhat of our tradition.
“I absolutely love this movie and the ‘realism’ that it adds to the Santa Claus character. I’m sure in time this movie will do as all movies do and age badly, but until then I will continue to enjoy its fun-filled romp of magic.”
According to reports, Tim Allen, who plays the main character Scott Calvin, was not the first choice for the role.
Before Allen, actors like Tom Hanks, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Tom Selleck, and even Mel Gibson were considered for the lead role.
One thrilled fan wrote: “A Cinematic Masterpiece, a Christmas movie you must see. Tim Allen plays Santa Clause in this movie; it is truly a classic,” reports say.
Despite its snowy setting, most of the movie was filmed in the spring and early summer.
Crews created fake snow from a mix of paper, marble dust and potato flakes, along with snow blankets.
Tim Allen’s Santa suit was incredibly heavy, weighing nearly 50 pounds, which was another added challenge to filming in warm weather.
If you’re looking to watch this film this winter, you can catch it on Disney+.
