Fallout Season 2 isn’t even out yet but Season 3 could start filming next summer | Gaming | Entertainment

It’s not long now until the second season of Amazon’s Fallout TV show hits screens with the first episode set to air on December 17.

Available for Amazon Prime subscribers, the show has risen to such huge success after its first season that a third season has already been commissioned before fans have a chance to see Season 2, and its producers reckon filming could start as early as next summer.

Speaking in an interview with IGN, executive producer Jonathan Nolan said: “We’re hoping to be shooting again next summer. We’ll see if that all comes together, best laid plans and all.”

The renewal for a third season is a show of confidence in the show from Amazon, which is unsurprising given the critical and award response. Fallout Season 1 is currently sitting at a score of 8.3 on IMDB and won two Emmy Awards in 2024.

Nolan went on to explain why he’s so eager to get the show back into production as quickly as possible, taking small shots at other shows that have stayed off the air for years between seasons.“I think what’s happened with television in terms of taking longer and longer from season to season is an unfortunate trend,” he says. “You don’t want the show to lose any of its scope, but we know that we’d like to be back on the air as soon as we can.”

The comments are likely aimed at shows such as Stranger Things and Euphoria, which have recently gone almost four years off the air between seasons. In comparison, it’s only been 18 months since we last saw Fallout on our screens with production for Season 2 starting in November 2024.

Despite revealing that Season 3 is definitely on the way, Nolan didn’t provide any information on where that third season may be set. New Vegas is a tough act to follow, but it’s possible we could see the show swap the west coast for the east and explore the likes of Boston or Washington from Bethesda’s most recent Fallout games.

Amazon is switching things up with the release schedule of Season 2 this time around. Season 1 previously had all its episodes drop on one day, but Amazon is eking out the excitement week by week until the finale airs on February 4, 2026.

While the first eight episodes of the show seemed to be based on an amalgamation of Fallout 3 and 4, Season 2 is taking fans to arguably the most beloved setting in the series – New Vegas. Trailers have already revealed iconic factions such as The Kings, the NCR, and Caesar’s Legion.

The story is set to pick up right where Season 1 left off with Lucy and The Ghoul tracking her father down after his escape from the final battle. All of the major cast members are reprising their roles with Ella Purnell as Lucy, Walton Goggins as The Ghoul, and Aaron Moten as Maximus.

Season 2 will introduce some new faces into the mix too, with Justin Theroux appearing as Mr House. Macaulay Culkin is also set to show his face as an unnamed character as of yet, although he appears to be tied to The Legion faction.

The first episode of Fallout Season 2 airs on Amazon Prime Video on December 17 at 8am GMT.
