Island offering a ‘digital detox’ for Christmas – it only costs £20 | Travel News | Travel

As the Christmas season approaches, bringing with it a flurry of activity and potential stress, you might find yourself yearning for a tranquil retreat. A unique opportunity has arisen to escape to a secluded island, offering a serene sanctuary before the festive frenzy kicks off.

For a mere £20, you can secure a three-night stay on a private island located off the peaceful coast of Isleornsay on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. Here, guests are encouraged to embrace a digital detox, disconnecting from technology to reconnect with nature amidst breathtaking scenery.

The Eilean Sionnach Lighthouse Cottage, accessible solely by boat, serves as your idyllic off-grid hideaway.

The Lighthouse Cottage boasts four tastefully decorated bedrooms, a roll-top bath with a sea view, a cosy wood-burning stove, and awe-inspiring views over Loch Hourn and Knoydart.

This setting provides an ideal backdrop for leisurely mornings free from screens and hectic schedules.

The Silent Night Stay accommodates up to four guests, offering a calming itinerary of activities such as birdwatching, seaweed foraging, sound baths, and open swimming, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Upon arrival, guests are treated to a locally sourced food hamper and refreshments, along with a ‘Serenity Kit’. This includes a journal for introspective moments, a sand timer to promote tech-free periods, a puzzle, and a candle infused with the scent of the Isle of Skye.

This distinctive accommodation option emerges as fresh research from Booking.com shows that a quarter of Britons yearn to escape the mayhem and venture ‘off grid’ this Christmas.

An additional 51% express they would welcome the opportunity to recharge and reset, spending precious time with a select group of loved ones whilst stepping away from the typical festive pandemonium.

“We’re seeing a real shift in what people are looking for from travel – towards quieter, more meaningful experiences that help them switch off, unwind and try something new,” says Ryan Pearson, regional manager for UK and Ireland at Booking.com.

“Our 2026 Travel Predictions highlights how ‘Hushed Hobbies’ are on the rise – with a third of travellers looking for a festive break that allows them to slow down, reflect, and rediscover peace in nature.

“The Silent Night stay captures that spirit perfectly, giving guests a chance to slow down and restore balance during one of the busiest times of year.”

You’ll need to act swiftly if you fancy experiencing the Silent Night retreat, as it becomes available to reserve on a first-come, first-served basis on December 5, 2025, at 10am via the Booking.com app or website.

Four guests can savour a three-night stay from 19 to 22 December at a cost of just £20.25.
