The Works largest ever Black Friday event is well under way, promising a bonanza for book enthusiasts. The first set of deals started in November but now shoppers can find exceptional value in store and online, with deals designed to help families prepare for Christmas without straining their wallets this Black Friday.
The initial wave of offers centres on ‘Books for Everyone,’ with big price cuts across children’s and adult titles. Parents and teachers can snap up 12 picture storybooks for £10, equating to only 83p per book – ideal for festive presents, classroom rewards, or bedtime stories – in store.
Online shoppers can secure kids’ book bundles for £10. Meanwhile, fans of adult fiction can grab four bestselling titles for £7.50, amounting to less than £1.90 per read, with authors including Freida McFadden and Elsie Silver among the selection, available in store.
More deals include Christmas gifts and activity sets from November 21 to December 1, so shoppers are urged to visit stores to take advantage of these seasonal discounts that end soon. Shoppers can find 3 for £12 on toys and games, as well as 3 for £12 on 500 piece jigsaws and 3 for £16 on 1,000 piece jigsaws.
Among those available from the Fiction and Non-Fiction Books is Freida McFadden’s Do Not Disturb, which has been rated a high 4.7 out of 5 stars. This is described as a ‘twisty, psychological thriller like no other’, as it is a story of secrets that will keep readers gripped until the end, reports the Mirror. McFadden’s Surrogate Mother, Ward D and Never Lie are also included.
For a festive touch, Sarah Morgan’s The Christmas Cottage is available, as well as Cressida McLaughlin’s The Secret Christmas Bookshop and Alexandra Benedict’s The Christmas Jigsaw Murders, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
For children’s picture books, one of the bundles features: William’s Winter Wish, The Christmas Show, Bella Gets Her Skates On, Sam’s Snowflake, The Best Christmas Present Ever!, Merry Christmas Gus, Santa Selfie, Snowball, Say Hello to the Snow Animals and The Owl Who Came for Christmas. This set is described as brimming with ‘charming festive tales’, making it the perfect companion for youngsters.
Amazon also offers a variety of books at competitive prices. For instance, R.L. Killmore’s A Cinnamon Falls Mystery is available in paperback for £4 and is touted as a ‘cosy murder mystery series with a romantic twist’ – ideal for fans of Gilmore Girls, Pretty Little Liars and The Pumpkin Spice Cafe.
World of Books is offering discounts on thriller and horror books as well – for example, Andrea Mara’s No One Saw a Thing is available for £5.10, down from £8.99. It’s described as a ‘gripping thriller about a parent’s worst nightmare’.
The books from The Works have received high praise, with one customer commenting on The Secret Christmas Bookshop: “A lovely chunky book at a good price. Can’t wait to curl up and get festive.”
Another enthused: “First Christmas book of the year. Thoroughly enjoyed it especially the parts re the arts and crafts and the animals. I even shed a few tears at the end. Really good characters and a lovely story line.”
However, some customers expressed frustration after encountering difficulties logging into the website, suggesting that for the best shopping experience, heading to a physical The Works store might be preferable.
Despite this, the overall sentiment was positive, with another shopper stating: “Good quality, beautiful books. Great Christmas present.”
