Police are set to consult with experts to identify the species of the shark involved. The beach at Crowdy Bay National Park has since been closed to swimmers.

The park is popular for beach camping and fishing.

In a separate incident, a man in his fifties was fatally mauled by a shark off a Sydney beach in September. Two pieces of the man’s surfboard were found at the scene at Long Reef Beach.
