‘All-time favourite’ Tom Cruise movie added to Amazon Prime Video | Films | Entertainment
A 1992 courtroom drama with an all-star cast has been added to Amazon Prime Video’s catalogue.
The film follows Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee, a military lawyer known for cutting plea bargains rather than going to court. He is assigned to defend two Marines charged with the murder of a fellow Marine, Private Santiago.
The defense team discovers the murder may have been the result of a “Code Red,” an unofficial and unauthorized disciplinary action.
Kaffee, pushed by his colleague JoAnne Galloway, starts to take the case seriously, digging into the circumstances surrounding Santiago’s death and the orders given by his superiors.
The investigation then leads to a dramatic courtroom confrontation with the commanding officer, Colonel Nathan R. Jessep, who is forced to testify.
With a cast including Tom Cruise as Kaffee, Jack Nicholson as Jessep, Demi Moore as Galloway, and Kevin Bacon as Captain Jack Ross, A Few Good Men ultimately grossed over $243,240,178 worldwide upon its release. It also has earned an 84% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes.
On the review platform, audience members praise it as one of their favourite films of all time. One fan wrote: “One of my all-time favourites! I could watch again and again… and have done. The build up to the unforgettable iconic courtroom scene…”. They also quoted the movie’s most famous quote: “’You can’t handle the truth’ is one of the greatest… And Nicholson is superb.”
Another commenter called it an “engrossing, well-structured and immensely sharp drama that flows smoothly all the way through and handles its many themes very capably, in addition to having an excellent screenplay and powerhouse performances from Tom Cruise, Demi Moore and Jack Nicholson.”
Yet another added: “Tightly directed and shot in a way that conveys the fascinating yet absurd structure of the military. A brilliant script and excellent acting. Tom Cruise is perfect as the precocious and talented yet out of his depth Navy lawyer. Jack Nicholson is iconic as the obnoxious Leviathan Army colonel. The courtroom scenes where they go toe-to-toe are absolutely iconic. One of my top 10 movies of all time.”
The film was nominated for four Academy Awards the following year: Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Jack Nicholson), Best Film Editing, and Best Sound Mixing. It won two People’s Choice Awards, for Favorite Motion Picture and Favorite Dramatic Motion Picture.
A Few Good Men is now available to stream on Prime Video and Apple TV.
