AirPods Pro at ‘lowest ever’ price is one of the best Black Friday deals yet
Black Friday sales are ramping up ahead of the day itself, which this year falls on November 28. Many tech retailers have opted to use most of the month to discount popular gadgets, but the latest deal at Amazon for Apple’s top-end AirPods Pro is one of the most eye-catching so far.
Right now, you can get the AirPods Pro 2 from Amazon for £169, a 15 percent lower price than their £199 RRP. These buds actually used to cost £229, but they have been replaced in Apple’s line up by the AirPods Pro 3, hence their new slightly lower RRP.
But £169 is, according to Amazon price tracker site Camelcamelcamel, the “lowest ever” price the AirPods Pro 2 have been sold for.
I’ve used the AirPods Pro 2 ever since their release in 2022, so am well versed in their pros and cons – thankfully it’s most pros. The sound quality is excellent, and the noise cancellation and transparency modes are among the best I’ve test on any wireless earbuds.
The version on sale at Amazon is the newer 2023 model, which has a USB-C port on the case for charging, which replaced the older Lightning version, but the earbuds themselves are identical.
You don’t miss out on much by opting for the AirPods Pro 2 instead of the new Pro 3. The design is basically the same, and I actually find the rubber tips of the Pro 2 an easier, more secure fit in my ears compared to the newer pair, which have firmer tips.
The Pro 2 has also got the (region dependent but available in the UK) software update that adds in Apple’s clever hearing aid feature along with live translation, the latter working only if you have an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence.
You also get personalised spatial audio with apps that support it, dust, sweat and water protection thanks to an IP54 rating and a charging case that has MagSafe so you can charge it wirelessly as well as with a USB-C cable.
Apple rates the earbuds for six hours of listening time with noise cancellation on, and a built-in speaker in the case is surprisingly handy. I’ve used the Find My app several times when I’ve misplaced the AirPods in a coat pocket or bag, with a loud ringing calling out to help me find them.
The pinch controls on each bud are also easy to get the hang of to play and pause audio, as well as holding to change between noise cancellation and transparency. And if you have several Apple devices, the AirPods Pro 2 can cleverly hop between them depending which you’re using, so your iPhone, iPad and Mac can all be connected.
