Black Friday is not until November 28, but many retailers have already kicked off their sales, including health and beauty favourite Superdrug. With almost a month to go until the big day, there are great savings to be made across beauty, skincare and haircare, but fragrance lovers can snap up a classic Calvin Klein perfume favoured by Jane Fonda for 61% off.

Shoppers can now get a 100ml bottle of Obsession eau de parfum for £34, down from £88. This is the best deal we’ve found, as the same bottle is also on sale at Boots, but for £44. 

Legendary actress Fonda mentioned the fragrance in an interview with Glamour last year, where she was quizzed on her favourite beauty products. She told the publication that in her lifetime, she only ever wore one scent. She said: “I’ve stopped using perfumes. That’s because so many people I know are allergic. But when I did wear it, my one and only perfume was Calvin Klein’s Obsession.”

The fragrance has been around since 1985, and was Calvin Klein’s first big fragrance success, known for its rich, spicy notes that came to define an era of big, bold 1980s scents.

Belonging in the family of amber perfumes, it opens with vanilla and citrusy notes of bergamot, mandarin and lemon before revealing a spicy heart. Middle notes include smoky coriander and oakmoss, sweetened by feminine jasmine, rose and sandalwood, with musky base notes.

Reading reviews for the fragrance online proves it’s a classic for a reason, with one of many fans saying: “I’ve been using this perfume for years – timeless and gorgeous!”

Another wrote: “I’ve been wearing this scent, off and on, for the past 30 years…It is not an overpowering fragrance, but it is long-lasting. When you leave the room, people will know you were there.”

Others pointed out that the spicy notes make Obsession great for colder weather, with one review saying: “This is a spicy heavy winter scent that reminds me of cosy sweaters and a warm fire…I find myself buying at least a small bottle every autumn.”

A third review said: “This fragrance has been an old favourite of mine for nearly 40 years. It’s quite a strong, spicy, musky scent which seems to last for ages on my skin – I love it.”

The same shopper warned: “If you favour a light, sweet, floral fragrance then this might not be for you.”
