Jones Road grey eyebrow pencil is ‘perfect’ for older women, fans say
Whether someone is in their 30s or their 60s, beauty needs change as the skin does over time, so upgrading makeup products alongside a solid skincare routine can be key. With over 5,500 reviews, one product has been praised by older beauty users for its complimentary colour matching.
The product is The Brow Pencil from Jones Road, in grey, and costs £24. It also comes in a host of other shades: blonde, ash, light brunette, brunette and dark brunette too, offering plenty of options.
Founded by make-up artist Bobbi Brown after she left her namesake brand, Jones Road set out to create products that look like skin, not make-up. This brow pencil fits into that philosophy. It is softly pigmented, with a waxy texture that lets you create fine, hair-like strokes rather than blocky, drawn-on brows that look overdone.
It’s particularly loved by those with thinning or greying brows. The shade range has more natural rather than warm shades, with tones like ash and light brunette that avoid the common problem of brows looking too orange or too dark.
The slightly chunkier pencil is easy to control, and the finish is defined, but not overdone, making it the perfect pencil to enhance what’s there rather than redraw the entire brow.
The brand recommends shoppers use the tip of the pencil in light upward strokes for definition or filling in brows, or to thicken where needed. American make-up artist and brand founder Bobbi says: “I love to use every little bit of eyebrow hair that grows naturally, adding The Brow Pencil in key places. Filling in the top of the brow arch adds lift. Adding strokes to the inner edge of the brow (close to your nose) frames the eyes. Also great for extending the outside tip of the brow.”
The brand also says the best shades for grey hair are Ash or Light Brunette, depending on skin tone.
Another product to help sculpt brilliant brows comes from Boots, who have the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz for £23. This is retractable and slim, good for outlining and detailing brows, and shoppers can use the end to blend.
Elsewhere, Charlotte Tilbury has the Brow Lift for £26, which comes in a few shades including taupe, natural brown, medium brown and black brown, with some other colours out of stock online currently. It is a cream wax, refillable eyebrow pencil that beauty fans can use to shape, fill and structure brows with. It has a handy brush too to help straighten out brows too.
With 5,542 reviews for the Jones Road pencil, one shopper said: “It’s a perfect colour for an older woman with grey hair and very light brows.” Another said: “Goes on great. Colour I chose, light brunette, is perfect and it looks awesome with my salt and pepper hair. I love this brow pencil.”
It was branded ‘a best’ product by one shopper: “This is a terrific product. Perfect colour for ash blondes and it doesn’t create harsh lines, looks very natural and fills out browns without making them look drawn on. Best eyebrow product I have ever purchased.”
When it came to choosing the right shade, one customer said: “Really nice brow pencil, I think I ordered the wrong colour for me it’s a little too dark. But the pencil fills in brows nicely and looks natural.”
Another also had feedback, saying: “I had already purchased the Ash coloured eyebrow pencil and felt it was a little ‘off’ for my colouring. I read another review from a customer who has white hair and she said she loved the grey pencil. I too have white hair so I ordered the grey pencil. I have to use a very light touch, but the grey looks better on me.”
