Poundland has revealed today that all of its stores will close for three days later this year.

The budget retailer announced on Monday that the closures are a token of appreciation for its workforce who have had a challenging year.

Branches will be closed on

  • Christmas Day
  • Boxing Day
  • New Year’s Day

The move is set to bring welcome respite for workers following a testing year for the retailer.

Working in the industry during the frantic Christmas period can be both rewarding and exhausting, so the confirmation that Poundland shops will stay locked on December 26 and January 1 will offer vital breathing space for staff.

It will also mean they can relax and mark the festive occasion with families and other loved ones.

This news comes as other high street giants, including Marks and Spencer, have announced their workforce work on Boxing Day for the first time in five years.

In an effort to inject some festive spirit, Poundland is also presenting each worker with a £25 voucher collection in November to use in-store during December and January 2026, in a bid to help their wages go further this Christmas period.

Darren MacDonald, Country Manager UK at Poundland, said: “It’s no secret that 2025 has been one of our most challenging years, but the support and commitment from our colleagues has been nothing short of amazing – and I’m delighted we can renew our commitment to give them the time they deserve over the holidays.

“I know how much our colleagues are looking forward to making shopping in stores a magical experience this year- and we’re proud to support them with a proper festive break.”
