Travellers heading to Italy this weekend have been warned of potential disruption due to a 24-hour national strike on Friday.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has advised that the strike would affect trains from 9pm on Thursday, October 2, and then all transport from midnight and throughout Friday, October 3.
Travellers are urged to check their schedules with transport providers.
In addition, the FCDO has alerted tourists of possible disruptions in Rome on Saturday, October 4, due to planned demonstrations.
The statement read: “Demonstrations are planned in Rome for Saturday, October 4. This is likely to attract a large number of protestors and cause disruption to roads and transport in the city centre. Plan your day and avoid any demonstrations.”
The FCDO said there was further information about industrial action and demonstrations on its safety and security page.
Jubilee 2025 – Holy Year
Furthermore, travellers have been informed about The Jubilee, also known as the Holy Year, which will be taking place in Rome from December 24, 2024, to January 6, 2026.
The FCDO said: “The city is expected to be very busy, if you are planning to travel to Rome during this time, see our Jubilee 2025 – Holy Year information in safety and security.”
