Amazon offers reason to ditch your Fire TV Stick and try something new instead
Yes, Amazon’s Fire TV Sticks rule the roost when it comes to sheer popularity, but there’s a new deal that might convince some to try something different instead. When heading to the online retailer’s website, you’ll currently find Amazon’s Fire TV Sticks are full price, with things starting from £39.99 for the standard HD model. However, make the switch over to Roku’s latest gadgets and you’ll get a bit more bang for your buck.
Right now, Amazon is selling the latest Roku Streaming Stick 4K for the same £39.99 price (a saving of £10 off the usual cost).
For that money, you get a gadget that whizzes everything to the big screen in stunning ultra-high 4K definition. Plus, it’s fully compatible with Dolby Vision and HDR10+ formats for an even more pin-sharp experience. Other extras on the Roku Streaming Stick 4K include a new design that’s now much smaller and takes up less space in the back of the telly.
It can also get all the power it needs from the screen itself rather than needing to be plugged into the mains, which makes things a little more convenient.
Just like Amazon’s Fire TV Sticks, once plugged in and linked to Wi-Fi, users have instant access to all the most popular streaming apps, including Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+, and BBC iPlayer.
It even has the Roku Channel pre-installed, which features a swathe of content that can be viewed for free.
If £39.99 sounds a bit steep, there is a cheaper option. Amazon has also cut the price of the Roku Express 4K player which now costs £24.99 – was £39.99.
As the name suggests, this gadget also offers access to streams in stunning 4K, plus there are extras such as dual-band Wi-Fi for a smoother experience.
These are solid offers from Amazon (Argos and Currys also stock the Roku sticks), but there is a word of warning.
Firstly, Amazon has confirmed that it’s holding a major sale event on October 8th so expect some big price cuts coming to its onw-brand devices such as the Fire TV Stick.
The other thing to be aware of is that the US company is also about to announce some new devices at a showcase in New York next week.
Fire TV Sticks, Echo speakers and Kindles could be top of the agenda, so watch this space.
