Magical UK town with cobbles, Tudor cottages and castle | UK | Travel
There’s still time to book a getaway if you’re yet to go away this summer. And, according to one pair of travel experts, there’s no better place than the “fairytale town” situated just an hour away from London.
World travellers, Theo and Rodrigo, who hail from Italy and Brazil respectively, regularly share their top holiday picks from around the globe. In their latest video, however, they highlighted a quaint East Sussex location as a must-see.
“It looks like it was frozen in time,” they enthused in a TikTok video, pointing out the town centre’s Tudor architecture.
The destination? “It’s called Rye,” the duo said. “Picture cobbled streets, cute houses and a hilltop castle watching over it all.”
Theo and Rodrigo went on to pinpoint Rye’s highlight – Mermaid Street. The road is often described as one of the prettiest in England.
“It’s lined with crooked cottages and little shops you’ll want to wander in to,” they continued.
The pair’s clip also noted Fletchers House, famed for its high tea brunch, The Old Shed off licence and Rye Deli as interesting stop-off points, as well as Simply Rye for a selection of local gifts.
They added: “It’s the perfect place for a slow stroll or a cosy pub lunch.”
The pair filmed the lovely surroundings as they went past Rye Pottery and other landmarks. What’s more, you can even stroll down to the beach if you’d like some sea air.
The duo claimed getting to Rye is “super easy” β with those travelling from London required to change at Ashford in Kent.
Backing up Theo and Rodrigo’s suggestion, Rye’s visitor guide provided by Visit 1066 Country enthuses of the town: “A medieval citadel huddled against invaders and the sea, Rye reveals its history gently.
“Today itβs home to a myriad of art, curiosities and cosy pubs, as well as modern boutique hotels and contemporary restaurants serving the best Sussex has to offer, from land and sea.
“Built on smuggled secrets and timeless tales, Rye has nooks and crannies to explore and distant views across Romney Marsh to ponder.”
Writing in response, one TikTok user gushed: “What an adorable spot!”
Meanwhile, a second person added their tip: “Went to the Greek pub [Marco’s] restaurant there, fabulous owners.”
A third praised: “How pretty!” And a fourth concurred: “This is so stinking cute!”
