’10 out of 10′ horror from Taken writer streaming on Prime | Films | Entertainment
A ’10 out of 10′ horror movie that’s said to be unlike any other from the co-writer of the Taken franchise, is now streaming on Prime Video.
Dogman, initially released in cinemas in 2023, has joined the vast collection of the retail behemoth.
This French production, crafted in English, was penned and directed by renowned filmmaker Luc Besson.
Besson’s illustrious career includes directing cult favourites such as Leon: The Professional and Bruce Willis’s sci-fi hit The Fifth Element.
Additionally, he co-wrote all three Taken films featuring Liam Neeson, collaborating with screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen.
Dogman marked Besson’s first cinematic release since 2019, although he has subsequently released two films in 2025 – June and John and Dracula: A Love Tale, both unique spins on the romantic comedy genre.

According to its synopsis, Dogman traces the story of Douglas, a victim of childhood abuse at the hands of his violent father who left him to the mercy of dogs. However, instead of attacking him, the dogs became his protectors , reports the Mirror.
Haunted and living on the fringes of society with his dogs, Douglas spirals into a homicidal frenzy. The film’s narrative unfolds as he is apprehended and recounts his life to a police officer.
Caleb Landry Jones, known for his roles in X-Men: Future Class and Get Out, takes centre stage as Doug.
Upon its release, the film didn’t receive universal acclaim. However, The Guardian dubbed it “the most ludicrous film you’ll see all year, maybe ever.”
while FirstShowing hailed it as their top pick at the 2023 Venice Film Festival.
Dog enthusiasts will be relieved to learn from critics that no canine characters come to harm or meet their end in the film. They also draw parallels between the plot and the origin story of the first Joker, where a societal outcast morphs into a sort of vigilante.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film boasts an impressive fan rating of 83%. Numerous viewers who have already watched the film have shared their endorsements online.
One viewer expressed: “A deeply moving and unforgettable movie! A must-see for everyone who has dogs, loves them, and considers them part of the family. I cried at the ending, but I loved the entire film. Caleb Landry Jones’ performance is outstanding, truly moving. I don’t understand how this movie didn’t receive more awards or nominations.”
Another enthused: “This movie was unlike any I have seen. The main character, the story line and how the story played out was just incredible! Was a pity I had such a hard time tracking it down in Australia as its not on any streaming services but I’m glad I finally got it. Not many movies make me cry but this one did, had me on the edge of my seat. I felt a lot of different emotions watching this. 10 out of 10.”
Meanwhile, someone else declared: “This is an absolute hidden gem. The performances are exceptional across the board and Jones deserves awards for this. Fabulous direction and story telling. A definite must, added bonus dog welfare was paramount in the making of this movie and was delighted that there were no real moments where the dogs were hurt.”
Dogman is streaming on Prime Video.
