007 First Light delayed, but only on this one console | Gaming | Entertainment

IO Interactive’s upcoming James Bond video game, 007 First Light, is due to launch on consoles on May 27, 2026. However, the studio has announced that one platform will be getting the game a little later than planned thanks to a last minute delay.

Although 007 First Light is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2, Nintendo fans will now get the game a little later than planned.

The delay was announced by the studio on social media, with IO Interactive explaining that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light will now arrive on Switch 2 ‘later this summer’.

“We’re excited to see players discovering James Bond‘s reimagined origin story, and we are looking forward to bringing you the best game experience possible across all platforms,” the rest of the post reads.

As for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC versions of 007 First Light, those editions are still on track for a May 27, 2026 release date.

This is technically the second time that IO Interactive has had to delay its Bond project with it originally slated for a March 27, 2026 release date. However, this was pushed back by two months.

The developer didn’t give a reason for the delay at the time, and the same is true with the pushback of the Switch 2 version. All that’s referenced is ensuring that gamers are able to receive ‘the best game experience possible across all platforms’.

Despite being a pretty fresh console, the Nintendo Switch 2 is drastically less powerful than the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S devices due to its portable nature. As such, it might be that IO Interactive needs a little more time to ensure that its game is able to run smoothly while still looking its best on a portable device.

Given IO Interactive has specified that it expects to deliver 007 First Light by the end of summer, we’d expect a release date no later than the end of September 2026.

007 First Light is a re-imagining of the James Bond origin story with a fresh faced agent at the age of 26. The younger take on the Bond character is set to be refreshing as the developer takes its experience on building the Hitman games into a more traditional third person action shooter.

Will you be picking up 007 First Light on PlayStation or waiting for the Nintendo Switch 2 release?
